There is some support on Azure / S3 +++ in Desktop and Server and Cloud now. What about implementing Rclone as a backend tool to support reading and writing to "all Cloud Storage"?

https://rclone.org/

It seems to be "the FME" of Cloud Storage Read/Write - supporting the following technologies:

  • Amazon Drive
  • Amazon S3
  • Backblaze B2
  • Box
  • Ceph
  • DigitalOcean Spaces
  • Dreamhost
  • Dropbox
  • FTP
  • Google Cloud Storage
  • Google Drive
  • HTTP
  • Hubic
  • IBM COS S3
  • Memset Memstore
  • Mega
  • Microsoft Azure Blob Storage
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Minio
  • Nextcloud
  • OVH
  • OpenDrive
  • Openstack Swift
  • Oracle Cloud Storage
  • ownCloud
  • pCloud
  • put.io
  • QingStor
  • Rackspace Cloud Files
  • SFTP
  • Wasabi
  • WebDAV
  • Yandex Disk
  • The local filesystem

Interesting idea. It would seem we'd have to use command line calls to get it to do the push/pull from the various systems. But it is an impressive list.

In the meantime, for those willing to live right on the edge, it looks like this could be an alternative: https://rclone.org/commands/rclone_mount/ Note that I'm not recommending it! Spoofing filesystems can be destabilizing, if my memory serves....

I've upvoted this since it would help me handle several workflows I am currently trying to implement for data deliveries to different customers. I am challenged with moving/copying large volumes of media (photos and videos) between S3 buckets or parsing for certain media from the large bucket and binning into smaller buckets per customer account.

This would be something that ideally I could schedule on server to perform weekly updates to client S3 buckets in Nextcloud. When Nextcloud performs the polling of their respective S3 buckets after FME has pushed some new content, it would sync with the customers Nextcloud desktop client and automatically download the content.

This would be great to elevate FME in the data storage space.
