Hello FME community,

as I work a lot with raster data and File Raster Geodatabase, I noticed in the 2022.1 version of the FME desktop version that I can not clip raster data (aerial photos). Both the transformer "Clipper" and the option in the reader "Use Search Envelope" do not work.

Neither as TIFF nor as raster GDB.

In the 2021.1 FME desktop version it works without problems.

Does anyone know the problem?

Does it error out or just not work?

There is an error with the clipper for large raster datasets where it dies when clipping the raster dataset using the latest clipper version that is in 2022. FMEENGINE-75075 "Raster Clipping: Reduce memory usage in all modes" which has a workaround of setting

Overlapping Clippers parameter to "Clip Original Candidates"

The other option you have is copy a clipper transformer from a 2021 workspace into a 2022 workspace, therefore using a older version of the clipper.

There is indeed an error. Unfortunately, this is not named more precisely.

Only one:

|ERROR |Error running translation

is displayed.

Can you tell me where the FMEENGINE-75075 is?

I can't find it, at least in the Known Issues in FME 2022.x page.

Does the "Search Envelope" option in the Reader work like the Clipper, only with less settings? With this one the error message appears as well

The "Clip Original Candidates" option is unfortunately not the right one, because this option does not cut directly but rather selects the data as a whole. And since there is only one large raster data image, the whole is output again.

Have exactly same problem here with version 2022.2.

Solved it with @Todd Davis solution of taking clipper from a 2021 version instead.

If you raise a case with safe support, then ask to be put on that ticket.

No, it’s not listed under issues on the website but it sure is one. I had the same problem with no error returned but the translation terminating. The fme.exe crashes in the background, thus why there is no good error message returned.

Hi @diroxas, would you be able to submit a ticket for this? It sounds like something we should be looking into. If you could include your workspace and log file that would be helpful. Thanks!
