Question

Oracle connection issue: 'DEC-MCS' is not recognized as a valid encoding name.

Hi

My setup:

  • Mac OS Big Sur
  • FME(R) 2020.2.1.0 (20201130 - Build 20806 - macosx)
  • Oracle Client installed (Version 19.8.0.0.0)

Connection is set up correctly (for example giving wrong username I get error: Error connecting to Oracle database: message was `ORA-01017: invalid username/password)

And when giving correct credentials I get error:

ORACLE_AUTONOMOUS_NONSPATIAL reader: 'DEC-MCS' is not recognized as a valid encoding name.

Any ideas what to try?

Hello @markopytsep ,

Can you expand on the system history.

I see a very new macOS, a very new version of FME, and newish version of the Oracle Client.

Has this configuration worked before for you on macOS (Catalina with older FME or older Oracle Client)?

Hi @steveatsafe

No, this was my first try with MacOS and I didn't have time and resources to try other versions.

@markopytsep Thanks. Are you able to connect to this database from other systems?

What type is the Oracle database (on-premise, Oracle Cloud, or Oracle Autonmouse Cloud)?

Are you getting this error when adding a new Database Connection? (I think so).
