Is there a way to convert a KMZ file that contains a description field to tab format, where the description field becomes a field in the tab file? I have tested readers and writers for KMZ to KML and kml to tab and Vertex creator (it would be good to have the lat/long fields listed too) and none of this quite works.

hi @sladlow, if tou want to extract attributes from kml you can check this link https://knowledge.safe.com/articles/19918/how-to-expose-feature-attributes-from-kml-tag.html

Thanks

Thanks. I followed this workspace exactly and it didn't work - the description field arrived as part of the xquery expression.

I can't do that sorry. I thought that there would be a relatively straight forward way to do this that didn't actually require a specific dataset?

Thanks this worked! I just needed to go in and add the description field. It wouldn't copy over the lat/longs but I added these in MapInfo.
