It would probably also help to see if there is something special about your Oracle table - perhaps if you could include the Oracle table create SQL statement it might give us a clue. Could you include the FME log file from when you add the reader to your workspace. Thanks.

Oracle version is 12.1.0.2.0.
It doesn't seem to happen in 64 bit, only 32 bit.
It's not consistent - it does not happen always.
Sometimes, it will happen only once. If I delete the feature type, and re-import, the unwanted attributes are NOT there sometimes. Not only that, but if I close FME, re-open, and re-add, the unwanted attributes are NOT there.
There's nothing unusual about the tables. There are entries in the USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA for the tables. There are spatial indices.
It's not terribly critical.
