I am creating a extract process and I am needing to populate a existing template from Excel with data. The main issue is the template has 4 header rows, so I need to start writing data on Row 5.

Has anyone had sucess in working with custom formats for Excel like this?
Hi!

There is currently no "UPDATE" on the Excel-writer, they are working on implementing it. So the best solution might be to read the file and then write it to a new file and rename it to the old filename. Or just wait for the update 🙂
Hi,

There has been a surprising (to me, anyway) amount of these questions lately, so I hope Safe takes notice for the brand new Excel reader/writer that they're working on...

David: I guess its due to the "http://cdn.safe.com/videos/Webinar-Transform-Non-Spatial-Data-Using-FME.mp4&category=webinar" target="#autoiframe">How to Efficiently Transform Non-Spatial Data using FME" - Webinars:

By the way, I also hope they will upgrade this forum soon. Many suggestions on how to improve it on previous posts.
I share your enthusiasm regarding a possible upgrade of these forums, that's for sure :-)

I'm pretty sure there is an UPADTE on the excel writer.....

Anyway, if you have it set to INSERT, the values should be written onto a new row, so it should start from row 5.

True it was introduced in FME 2012, so i wonder what new options will be available in the new reader/writer.
Hi @DEWright_CA -- yes, we are hard at work on an all-new Excel reader/writer for FME 2013 SP2.  The reader should soon be in the betas, but the writer is still in the oven. If you could please send your example template and input data to support@safe.com citing this thread, I would like to have our testers use your exact scenario to test the new writer.  It should be able to do EXACTLY what you wanted here. And then when we're done, we'll send you the workspace.

Seriously exciting times around Safe labs these days....
