FME Flow Database Version, Fault-Tolerant Configuration with Provided Database Server

Good Morning Safers,

I am installing FME Flow 2021.2, and I wanted to check on the version of PostgreSQL I should be using, and the instructions on how to configure a provided a database server. As per Safe’s documentation, it seems I am looking at 11.13 but this version is long retired. I did find the following post that seems to indicate it is still compatible with 14:

Have other discovered the same?

Also, there doesn’t seem to be documentation about provided a configured database server. The documentation seems to indicate I would provide the scripts for creating the user and schema to the database administrator that are downloaded with FME Flow, but I am making assumptions. I did find the documentation from Barrie, but the FME Flow documentation provided by Safe only seems to go back to 2024: https://dis.barrie.ca/fmeserver/help/PDF-FMEFlowAdminGuide.pdf

Thank you Safers!

To configure a provided external database, FME Flow (formerly Server) gives you SQL scripts after installation (<FMEFlowDir>\Server\database\postgresql). These allow your DBA to create the required database, users, and permissions. You can find more details in the admin guide here:
https://docs.safe.com/fme/html/FME-Flow/AdminGuide/Configure-FME-Flow-Database-on-Separate_Server-Fault-Tolerance.htm

As for the PostgreSQL version, I haven’t tested FME Flow 2021 specifically with newer versions, but Mark seems to tell that there was some internal testing done for FME 2022 and 2023 with Postgres 14. It might not be officially supported for 2021, but in practice, it should still work just fine.

The following article talks to the Postgresql and FME Flow compatibility https://support.safe.com/hc/en-us/articles/25407796731917-Third-Party-Component-Versions-for-FME-Flow  You can only use 11.1 Postgresql with FME2021

Can’t you aim for a higher version of FME?

Just to addd, one might also consider FME Flow 2021.1 to be retired, since it’s not longer supported by Safe: https://www.safe.com/product-support-policy/
