Hi @nag,

Please don't change the file extension - this would make your license invalid. What was the extension from the original file you got from Do you have a serial number or is this a trial license? Are you able to use the online licensing option?

Did you email in the downloaded JSON file from FME Server to codes@safe.com?

Hi @nag

If you're using a floating license with FME Desktop (this uses FlexLM) - here is the documentation for that: https://docs.safe.com/fme/html/FME_Desktop_Documentation/FME_Desktop_Admin_Guide/FMEInstallation/Installing_Floating_License_Windows.htm

Once you've downloaded and installed flexlm - you can request your license here.

If you're trying to license FME Server, here is a guide to take you through it and how to obtain a license: https://knowledge.safe.com/articles/22776/fme-server-licensing-walk-through.html

Unless you renamed some other file as "safe.lic", it means you've got a floating license for FME Desktop only. This file (safe.lic) is for the Flexserver license server and cannot be used with FME Server.

FME Server has its own licensing system which does not use Flexserver. This means that you'll need to request a separate, FME Server-specific license file for your FME Server.

Hi @david_r, Actually we have Flexserver licence is configured in the production environment which was configured during installation of FME Server 2015 installation and same was accessing for other non prod servers as well and it was working fine.

Recently we have installed FME Server 2019 in the dev environment, Now can we use the same Flexserver license for this latest FME Server 2019? If yes could you guide me how to configure it?

We cannot upgrade or re-install Flexserver license server until unless we have done with end to end business testing with the latest FME Server 2019, As there are many daily jobs and other things are running, which cannot be stopped at this point of time.

Thanks for support.

FME Server stopped using Flexserver starting with FME Server 2016, it now uses its own proprietary licensing system that is integrated into the FME Server installation. In short, this means that it is not possible to use FME Server with Flexserver anymore.

The good news is that

  • the new licensing mechanism is much easier to use, and
  • you do not have to touch the existing Flexserver installation to license FME Server 2019

To license FME Server, you'll have to follow the instructions here (as mentioned by @jlutherthomas):
