In FME 2016 the AttributeClassifier has been deprecated in favour of the AttributeValidator. I agree that the AttributeValidator is the future but unless I'm mistaken it doesn't yet carry the full volume of tests previously offered by the AttributeClassifier?

Of course you can get the old AttributeClassifier from an old Workspace, but we shouldn't have to do that really.

None of the other Transformers that the AttributeValidator is designed to supersede have been deprecated yet, so can the decision be reversed, for the time being at least?

Or better: Add the lacking tests to the AttributeValidator.

Hi Dave, As Erik suggests our goal would be to improve the AttributeValidator at this point. Are there specific functions you are missing? We can look at adding these into the AttributeValidator.

The AttributeClassifier test options would be nice to be in other testers/filters (eg in "Type is" operator in TestFilter, Tester transformers)

Agreed, that's definitely the best approach but perhaps the AttributeClassifier has been deprecated prematurely.

It's some of the 'Types' that I missed, so for example we needed 'Alphabetic' and 'Date' that were in the AttributeClassifier but as far as I can tell haven't made it over to the AttributeValidator just yet. A few of the types have moved to other Validation Rules in the AttributeValidator but there's quite a long list of ones that haven't been ported; particularly the Types.

The date options have been added to the Tester and AttributeValidator in FME 2019.0 betas (which historically would be made public shortly after 2018.1 ships). You'll be able to test for any of our five temporal types - date, time, datetime, time-with-offset, and datetime-with-offset.

Date/time validation has been added to AttributeValidator for FME 2019:

'

It validates FME formatted dates. use the DateTimeConverter if your dates are in a different format.
