Hi,

did you try to connect the ECW reader to the JPG writer? If it didn't work, what did the log say?

Thanks David,

It is converted successfully and can be displayed by the “FME Data Inspector”

However, the ArcGIS is not able to display it

What might be the issue here?

Hi,

difficult to say, perhaps this particular combination isn't supported by ArcMap? You should perhaps ask ESRI or in the ArcGIS forums about this.

Hi,

I just did an extraction today for a customer.

Ecw to jpg.

I used the jpeg writer as you did.

And it does show in Arcmap.

The only difference i see in your case, as far as i can see, u did not generate a worldfile (.wld)

Try setting generation of worldfile to yes. (format parameters of the writer, can also be set in the navigatorpane)

Hi again,

I tried it without a wld file.

Without a file it also works, but if u click full extent button (the little globe icon) u get a warning :

"no wld Witte Singel complex.jpg:   The display area covers too many pixels at the current display resolution. Please zoom in or build pyramids.".

If u use "zoom to layer" on it it will pop into view.

Thanks GIO,

The option “world file generation” is already set to be “yes”.

What other options do I still have such that the converted ecw by FME can be displayed in the ArcMap?

Hi Jamal,

There should be no issue displaying the jpeg.

Did u try "zoom to layer" on the ecw layer?

Maybe u have a different projection for the ecw then you have set for the mxd (?).

Thanks GIO

The ArcGIS is not able to open it at all. As the jpg is added to the ArcMap, it keeps working and never ends.

What other issues should I consider?

Hi,

the problem might be that the uncompressed ecw is more than 10GB, it could be too much for ArcMap to handle as a jpeg.

Try using the Tiler to split it into 4 or 16 tiles and see if that helps.

Thanks David.

I’ll see if the manufacturer of the ecw image can split it so that the uncompressed size gets less than 10GB

Best
