Question

tfwx files - should FME recognise them?

Hi,

I georeference a few images in ArcMap and .tfwx files are generated.

For some reason, FME doesn't recognise the georeferencing until I rename .tfwx files to a .tfw extension.

Should FME be able to recognise the tfwx file directly?

Thanks,

Annette

I've never heard of .tfwx to be honest, and the fact that you can get FME to recognize them by renaming them to .tfw seems to indicate they're just plain .tfw files.

However, I have seen other extensions being used, like .jpw and .gfw for georeferenced JPG and GIF images, but in both cases the file structure was the same as .tfw. So it seems to me it's just a file naming issue and in that case, yes, it would be nice if FME could recognize them automatically (but if not, it's fairly easy to fix anyway).

Hi Hans,

Thanks.  I hadn't heard of them either.

Yes, I just made a copy of them as tfw files and FME picks them up them.

Maybe there is a setting in ESRI where you can specify that tfw files are generated instead of tfwx.

Hi Annette

You can look it up here why ESRI has the feeling to do that:

http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/32868

I never have seen anybody using affine tranformation in a world file, it seems a bit odd to me to introduce that now (it always was there) ... and what they say:

"This text file can be used as a world file if it is needed for ArcGIS 9.1 and non-ArcGIS software. To use this text file, delete the 'x' in the world file extension name."

pffffff ....

Thanks Flavio for the link.  Yes, I thought it was strange too.

I added this as an idea here. Yes, I think they should be supported.
