In July 2024, we held our annual FME Community User Survey. Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback and insights.
We received some frequently asked questions about the community and thought we’d answer them here…
How do the points work?
The points and badges you see on the leaderboard, on community member profiles, and across the FME Community recognize the contributions and accomplishments of each user.
Having more points and badges doesn’t mean you’re a better FME user. Instead, it shows that you’ve contributed more to the FME Community and are a more active member.
Almost every action on the community earns points, including:
- Answer a Question (Best Answer): 15 points
- Receive a Like or Vote: 10 points
- Reply to Post: 5 points
- Create a Post/Question/Idea: 5 points
- Give a Like or Upvote an Idea: 2 points
Earn 15 bonus points by watching an FME webinar and 10 bonus points by answering an unanswered question.
Learn more about points here.
What badges can I get?
Badges recognize specific achievements earned by you and others in the community. You’ll see badges on profile pages and profile cards (when you hover over another user).
You can also view all of the available badges and which ones you have earned by clicking on the List Your Badges button on the FME Community homepage.
Most badges are automatically applied to your account through your actions. However, if you watch a webinar, you can submit the code on the FME Community homepage.
There are several different types of badges that can be earned and awarded throughout the FME Community:
- Teacher, Expert, and Student Badges
- Webinar Badges
- Question Topics, Attending Events, and Special Day Badges
- Question of the Week
- Certifications from the FME Academy
- Retired Badges
- Special Badges
- Language Badges

How do I navigate between the different Safe platforms?
The FME Community is just one part of the Safe Software FME Campus. Once you create an account for the community, you have access to all of these other components:
- FME Academy: access free training, either live online or recorded
- Help Center
- Knowledge Base: read through how-to articles, demos, and troubleshooting guides
- FME Support: submit and view cases sent directly to the Safe support team
- FME Hub: contribute FME transformers, integrations, and templates, and download other people’s contributions
- FME Documentation: take advantage of documentation for detailed information on all parts of FME
- FME Certification: earn official certified status in FME Flow, Form, Training, and Business
Plus you can find the Safe Software corporate website here, FME product website here, and FME blog here.
How do I delete or edit a post?
Good news! You can now edit a post indefinitely on the FME Community. Look for the edit button in its usual place (previously the edit function timed out after 60 minutes).
If you must delete a post, please contact community@safe.com.
How does the Ideas Board work?
We recently shared a post on how the Ideas Board works and the improvements we made to the process.

Here’s a few ways to keep updated on what’s going on in the community:
- Visit it regularly
- Subscribe to email notifications: find this option under your profile settings

What are you doing about spam?
The FME Community is moderated by Safe Software. The role of moderators is to ensure that the posts abide by the community guidelines. In some cases, a simple edit to the post will be made by the moderator to resolve an issue. However, posts will be removed without warning if the moderator deems the post inappropriate for the FME Community, based on the above guidelines.
In cases where the conversation in the post has gone off-topic, the moderator reserves the right to lock the post from further comments. This measure helps maintain the focus and relevance of our community discussions, ensuring a productive and respectful environment for all members.
Community members can also help to moderate posts by using the Report button on any posts they feel violate the FME Community Guidelines. If the Report option is not available, please create a Support Case.
We ask that you refrain from posting spam, engaging in self-promotion, or conducting sales in the Forums. These posts will be flagged as spam and deleted. However, you’re welcome to share FME-related events in our designated Events section or include a link to your website in your profile.
We have several other techniques in place to prevent spam, including:
- In-built spam filter
- Extra set of custom keywords
- Immediate ban to signups on the reported list at stopforumspam.com
- All disposable email addresses (i.e., Gmail, Hotmail, etc.) are flagged for review by Safe support staff
