How do you set the coordinate system when creating a new service with ARCGISONLINEFEATURES?

Hi, I'm creating a new feature service in ArcGIS Online and it works great except the writer coordinate system is ignored, I get the default web mercator (3857). Is a particular version of coordinate system required on the features or how do I get the writer one respected? I know my desired CRS is supported by AGOL. Thanks all.

Hi @bruceharold,

Just wanted to inform you that it will be possible to specify a WKID in the ArcGIS Online writer in FME 2019.1 betas, as soon as they are released towards the end of this month.

Best,

Nathan

Have you checked your output in e.g. Data Inspector to verify that your output data has the expected Coordinate System? If not, you can add it with a CoordinateSystemSetter or use a Reprojector to change the Coordinate System if it does not match your output.

Yes i checked the coordinate system used by the service by reading a few features, I just don't want ArcGIS Online silently reprojecting my data during publication of the uploaded file GDB. I know the API being used supports publishing to a WKID CRS but I don't know if FME can use the parameter.

Hi @bruceharold,

You're right that the underlying APIs do support setting the WKID. Unfortunately in FME we can't yet map all FME coordinate system names to WKIDs. The work to make this all possible is on file and under consideration by development.

A question for you: would the option to directly set a WKID for use in the AGOL writer suffice? This overlooks the fact that the ability to set the coordinate system in the GUI is defunct. But it would at least allow you to achieve your end result. I'm not sure if this is the solution, but maybe could circumvent some of the trickier underlying issues.

Best,

Nathan

Hi Nathan, yes sure an option to supply a WKID would work fine!
