Notification or schedule for start/restart

I think it could be useful to have either a notification triggered when an FME Server or Cloud (re)starts or to be able to set that in a schedule.

Especially for FME Cloud instances that are not on 24/7 or on a regular schedule this would make it possible to make sure certain workspaces do get run.

Hi @redgeographics

on FME Cloud you can already set a schedule to start, restart or stop an instance. Please check out this blog & the FME Cloud documentation for more details about running an instance on a schedule.

We also recently added Instance Event notifications to FME Cloud which allow you to notify a notification group or a member of your FME Cloud account about different instance events including start, restart and stop of an instance.

You can configure the instance event notifications in the Events tab on the FME Cloud dashboard once you select a FME Cloud instance.

Thanks @GerhardAtSafe, but what I mean is the ability to kick off a workspace once the instance has started. If it's on a schedule that's easy, just set up a schedule in the admin interface to start a few minutes later. But if it's stopped and restarted at random intervals that won't work.

Hi @redgeographics

oh, I see what you mean now. You would like to configure an FME Server Topic that is always triggered whenever FME Server was started, is this correct?

I posted another idea suggesting this feature for FME Server. Please feel free to vote on it and add any further details you would like to see:

I also did a few tests with the Instance Events regarding this. With an Instance Started event, for example, a possible workaround, for now, would be an Email publication that polls an external Email account (e. g. Gmail or similar account that is specified to receive the Instance event notification) for "Instance Started" emails and triggers a topic whenever an email with the "Instance Started" subject line is received. The topic again can now trigger a workspace with the FME Workspace Subscriber. This way you can make sure your job runs within a minute whenever your FME Cloud instance is started. This would work similarly for reboots. (Note: The notification email is usually sent before FME Server is running on the instance, so the Emails to Fetch parameter in the Email publication should be set to "Unread Emails".)
