It would be nice to have the ability to put descriptions in next to attributes for what you're doing to them (ie. if you're doing some complex math equation or formatting). This way you can better see what's going on in the attribute manager.

A Comments column maybe? I would find that useful too - especially when using Conditional Attribute mapping. Because that's what needs a good description.

Or maybe just like most scripting applications: allow commenting in the text and evaluator editor by starting a comment with e.g. #

Both ways would be highly beneficial. Most of our stuff is one line stuff, so another column for description would allow us to easily view our code/script. But if you had multiple lines, it would be best practice to document what each one does, and maybe a generic description in a description field.

Yup! I think this is just the tip of the iceberg for transformers that could use this extremely useful feature :)

I think having something as simple as this would work perfect!

Might be cool to maybe have a description text box that would allow you (optionally) input an overall comment/description for what all is going on in the attribute manager that could be used as the default when you choose to label the attribute manager with a summary. This way the comment stays with the attribute manager, even if you delete an attached annotation, but more importantly, it gives you the overall description when you open the attribute manager, making it easier to understand what's going on overall in the transformer and making it easier to focus on (instead of having to move the popup window and trying to go back and forth between the annotation and the popup).

I think you're onto something here. Long ago we had a "description" field inside the Tester -- an early and a bit clunky and ultimately retired attempt to head down this path. Thanks for lobbying for this, the team is going to give it a good hard think (but I'm encouraging us to see if we could do something across the board and not just in AttributeManager)

Would be better than trying to summarise changes in an annotation or bookmark. When using expressions and functions it will be a must-have.

As of 2024.1, annotations are now supported in a multitude of transformers! See the release notes here:
