Question

I thought I had a simple thing to try out and have been banging my head and can't get it to work: I want to add a column to an AutoCAD Object Data Table.

I've used the AUTOCAD_OD Reader to get the table and Attribute Manager to add the column and this seems to work. I've even output to an Excel spreadsheet to see that the column has been added, but I can't figure out how to get the change back to the Original drawing.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi @dutchtower,

Please add the new attribute to the output feature type for the AUTOCAD_OD writer as well. You won't be able to write back to the source DWG file, but you can write a copy with the new attribute added.

I did that. What is happening now is that the top path write to a new drawing and the OD Writer erases the file created by the ACAD Writer with one with no vector data. Again, I may be missing something that "everyone " knows.

I think I have it! I don't need the reader/writer combination on top and I set the Preserve Template File Model Space=Yes (DUH). So for this one layer, I was able to Add the Attribute and keep the Model Space entities.
