For any users who aren't on Twitter, we are on the lookout for any users who have used FME to create maps, or prep data for maps. This is for an upcoming webinar, so we're looking for customer examples and experiences to share.

If you've used FME to create some PNG or PDF outputs or used it to prepare data for a map we want to know what your workflow looked like. What transformers did you use? Did you face any challenges?

If you've got something you're interested in sharing, let me know below!

Not to create a map.

But quite often to prepare data for map making.

Common issues: label and symbol rotation, white space management, generalization and styling

map making, mapconversion, and prepping for maps.

Using any transformer required I guess.

IIRC @ciarab did in her last job. Sure there was a presentation at one of the VAR events a couple of years ago.

That she did, thousands of tiles all produced through a power workspace.

Often.

Key transformer is the MapnikRasterizer.

Biggest challenge is dynamic graticule marks and scalebar.

Did you manage to do it all in FME?

Other than redacting the title and legend information, yes that output is entirely fme generated.

Another pure FME map. (Downsampled to be under 1MB for forum limit)

Challenge was deciding which label to keep in crowded areas.

Amazing map, congrat!

Good memory @mark_1spatial, that was a great project we mapped the whole of Ireland using the MapnikRasterizer and still producing output in OSi using this workflow

@ciarab would you be willing to share some examples of the outputs and an explanation of the process in FME for us to include in an upcoming webinar?

What kind of styling do you do in FME?

What time frame are we looking at? I can't share any actual outputs from existing projects, but with enough lead time I can grab some public data and process it.

Are there any processes that you find yourself repeating a lot for the map making process? Do you have any nice examples and workflows you'd be willing to share for an upcoming webinar?

Is Monday next week too short of a time frame (13th)?

It'd be good to have a rough overview by then, but I guess actual outputs could be the end of the week?

Maybe a bit late...

We use GeoServer (SLD/SE is a bit of hardcore XML but surprisingly flexible) and retrieve the map via WMS. At a good resolution 64 bit Java container and a lot of memory is required.
