Question

Do you have a transformer to convert .byn files to ASCII ?

Forum|alt.badge.img

I would like to import some Canadian grid shift files into another application but it does not natively read .byn files. Ultimately I would like to convert your fme-grids-b19253.zip package of Canadian grids into ASCII so that I can import them into my other application.

Yes. I downloaded it from the NRCAN website.

Hi @kevinbcrichlow,

I'm sorry, but FME does not currently have a reader for the NRCan .byn binary height grids.

There is a converter available as part of the free demo for the hydrographic survey application Hydromagic, which can be downloaded from https://www.eye4software.com/download/. Once installed, run the Hydromagic Geoid File Conversion Utility to convert the .byn file to ascii.

There is some indication that the BYN format will be added to GDAL in the future, which will make it available to FME as well. You can find the specification for the format at https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/sites/www.nrcan.gc.ca/files/earthsciences/pdf/gpshgrid_e.pdf
