It would be nice to have the ability to utilize connections that are on FME Server within your FME Desktop workflows. This would be nice as it makes managing connections for FME Server Admins/Publishers easier. It also feeds into the mentality of create once, allow users access. It also would provide security by allowing users to utilize it in their workflows without having to provide credentials to access it.

Currently if someone creates a named connection in their workspace (that is different from the one up on Server, even with the same user) and uploads it, it will still need to be authorized (ie. ArcGIS Online User).

I've had a client ask about this. I think it would be a valuable feature. Is it likely/possible?

Are there any plans to make this happen in the future?

Yo @FMELizard, is this planned for the future? Sure would be awesome! ;)

Thinking about it more, it would be awesome if there was a sync type feature for this so users could keep their desktop and server in sync (at the very least a way to pull from server down to desktop).

Also granular permissions to grant for each connection:

- read only (so user could only see the name of the connection - reducing duplicated connections - and add the connection to jobs, but couldn't run jobs with it.)

- use (similar to the run permission of workspaces, allowing a user to use the connection on desktop/server)

- edit (so user could edit the attributes of the connection)

Another thought, is it possible to share connections via a Shared FME Folder (default path)? We could do quite a bit if it was this way, as we already configure it during installs.

Agreed, I have a huge use case for being able to use the same shared connection file location where I store connections for FME Desktop. If FME Server could be pointed to this location it would make my life so easy!
