It would be nice if you could select a Web Connection to connect to ArcGIS Portal and have the Portal URL in the reader/writer populate from that.

Use a preset. If you populate the URL then go to preset save as (DEFAULT for example) and then set Change Default set to DEFAULT the Portal URL will be populated when you create the reader.

I have multiple different portal connections to connect to, so there is no default. I might be able to remember the url if there was only one!

Hi @ebygomm, if you’re using multiple portal connections and presets aren’t sufficient, are you hoping to be able to specify the portal URL directly when creating the web connection, so it’s tied to that connection?

I had the same problem years ago and so I have built a custom transformer that gets the url from the named connection. I use it inside the Hub Custom transformers (ArcGIS_AP_Users, etc) and in lots of other locations. Happy to share it, but I just don’t have time to document, etc for release onto the hub. Just private message me your email details.

You can also build it yourself using the fmewebservices python.
