Users of the HECRAS model often need to display their results visually using a GIS package. This entails having to convert the sdf file into shapefiles. FME does not seem to be able to handle the transformation of the HECRAS type sdf to SHP. That is an idea ripe for solution.

I've attached a sample .SDF output (wailupeexport.zip) from HEC-RAS obtained from http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-ras/downloads.aspx

More information about the HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center's River Analysis System) application is available on the following US Army Corp of Engineers website: http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-ras/default.aspx.

Some additional information:

  • AutoCAD Civil3D supports this SDF format generated by HECRAS
