Until now, FME is creating new dgn/dwg files with the help of writer.

But there is no option to update / change / delete specific feature i.e. changing the colour of line from red to blue / deleting the specific feature / changing the layer/level / etc... This is something like UPDATE in database. If we have to update small changes then we have to create entire dgn/dwg file which is not advisable...

@pratap, since dgn and dwg files are flat files and not a database, it may not be possible to update/modify without re-writing the file. Remember that FME manipulates the data unlike the native application, which is most cases opens up the file in edit mode.

However, e.g. DWG objects have an id, being autocad_handle. I have understood that they can be dynamic and are not static by default, but for the FME session it perhaps might be possible to use those to adjust the features.

I too understand the point you have said @srg, but there is a need to think broadly and search for a way. If needed, we have to change the approach of writing... As far as, I understand, dwg file has some db present inside... so, handle number is unique for each feature...

On the other hand, by using same file as template, if FME can read the file as-is and re-create without manual intervention then this is also possible by tweaking attributes.
