Have writers create format specific world files

The current writer for JPG exports a WLD file. It would be useful to have it be an option to export JPW files.

Absolutely support this idea. By specification for world files from ESRI it should have letter "w" at the end of the file extension.

Some of ESRI applications do not recognize files with extension .WLD as a world file and it causes the need to use, for example, "FileCopy" writer to "move" created .WLD file to to the world file with appropriate file extension.

The world file with file extension .WLD is is a text file containing control points that describe a coordinate transformation. It is used for CAD datasets and usually have different format than the world files described above.

As an Aerial Survey company we must produce thousands of tiles of imagery annually with associated worldfiles for hundresds of customers. These customers have a variety of software products with require the support of the 3 character naming convention for worldfiles.

When Writing out a JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) image, and selecting the option to write out a Worldfile, the worldfile extension is hardcoded to ‘.wld‘.

Firstly, would like an option to select and alternative file naming extension for worldfiles. Whether it be 3 characters or 4 characters convention.

The general three-character extension used by industry to conform to the 3 character naming convention uses the first and last character of the raster file's extention, followed by "w" at the end.

FME has adopted this in the GeoTIFF (Geo-referenced Tagged Image File Format) writer this as the ‘.tif’ extension becomes ‘.tfw’

For example, here are a few naming conventions for popular raster formats

Format          Filename         WorldFile name

ECW               mymap.ecw   mymap.eww

JPEG 2000     mymap.jp2     mymap.j2w

JPEG               mymap.jpg     mymap.jgw

Secondly, there is no option to write out Worldfiles for ECW and JPEG2000 formats, would like this added as an option in the writers.
