FME 64x and ArcGIS 32x

Hi!

We are moving our OS from winXP 32x to Windows7 64x.

We are using FME and ArcGIS.

We will be using FME 2014 sp2 Dekstop and ArcGIS 10.2.1 Desktop.

And we also have an ArcGIS server installed with MSSQL Server 2008 r2.

My question is on the correct install to use.

I read here (http://fmepedia.safe.com/articles/Samples_and_Demos/Notes-on-FME-and-ESRI-Versions-and-Compatibility) that I can't write those format if I run FME 64x :

File, Personal, or ArcSDE Geodatabase (ArcObjects)

But if I read here  (http://www.safe.com/fme/format-search/#!) I can write those format (File, Personal, or ArcSDE Geodatabase (ArcObjects))

I know I can use file geodatabase with the API but It's not my first choice as I'm limited on the API format.

So should I install FME 64x or FME 32x ?

Thank you!

Hi,

My answer is "both".

FME 32bit and 64bit can be installed in the same 64bit Windows machine, with the same license. You can select one of 32bit and 64bit properly according to a use.

See also these articles.

Hi,

unless you have very specific needs that warrant the 64-bit version, I'd recommend sticking to the 32-bit version of FME. That gives you the best integration with ArcGIS Desktop.

You can alway install the 64-bit version later on if you run into the memory limits imposed by the 32-bit architecture. And as Takashi says, there is no problem having both installed, if necessary.
