It would be helpful if FME could read my feature classes that contain an attribute with an attribute rule that uses an Arcade expression, and write it back out.

I have an FME workspace that worked fine until the feature class (which it reads and to which it also writes) was changed in ArcPro – an attribute was added (“document_link”) and an attribute rule was applied to it that uses an arcade expression. Since this change, the workspace doesn't run correctly.

On trying to run the same workspace, I get this error message:

An error occurred while attempting to open the table, feature class or relationship class 'sde.hwd_ppty_rights'. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147211773'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {The item does not have a definition.}

When I try to update the feature class (called sde.hwd_ppty_rights), I get the same error message as above.

The attribute rule itself (with the arcade expression) works fine and serves an important function. I'll attach the attribute rule containing the Arcade Script Expression (in column J) in case it’s helpful.

I'm pleased to share that an update to FME has resolved the enhancement request tracked as FMEENGINE-56280.

You should now be able to read in data with arcade expressions given that you have ArcGIS Pro or a modern version of ArcGIS Server installed. You will also need to be using 64-bit FME. If you have both ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop with Background Geoprocessing installed, you may need to change your python compatibility setting to tell FME to use ArcGIS Pro by setting it to an Arc Pro python. You can find the fix in the latest official build and the betas: FME Downloads.
