which license should i get?

we have a lot of data on the cloud and locally. does the desktop ESRI license provide the capabilities to connect to remote databases/data?

Welcome to the FME Community!

For what FME license edition you need, it depends on the type of database that you are needing to read or write to. As an example: If you are needing to write to a Microsoft SQL Server Spatial database or Amazon Redshift, then you'd need the Database edition.

I'd suggest reviewing this site and expanding the additional readers/writers available with each edition: https://www.safe.com/pricing/fme-desktop/

Alternatively, you can also search for a format in the formats matrix and see which edition you would need: https://www.safe.com/fme/formats-matrix/
