Translating Microstation to Civil 3d

I trialed FME late alst year.

 

 

I had limited success translating microstation to Civil 3D - Many times it fails - I am not certain if it the 3d in MS that is causing the trouble.

 

 

Any suggestons from the community on best practices for this type of translation?

Versioning both in DGN and Civil 3D will be important to ensure you understand in terms of support. A couple of useful articles are here:

Beyond that, when you read your Microstation data, always ensure that you click the 'Parameters' button and check the settings relating to how you are reading the data. The key thing to change from the default in many cases is how the data is grouped on read, the default of level numbers isn't always what you want and you may get better results if you look at Level Names or Schema - Level Names.
