SchemaMapper support for writing to coded domain values

Hello,

I have data in a look-up table that is destined for a coded domain value in a file geodatabase. If I map the source attributes to the target domain field, SchemaMapper simply ignores the mapping and leaves the target attribute field untouched. I am now stuck mapping the source attributes to a staging string field (which works fine) and carrying out the field calculations in ArcGIS after the fact. Is there any way to solve this problem without extending the tool?
