Okay, I feel like I'm on Jeopardy, phrasing my answer in the form of a question, but I wanted to mark the 16th birthday of FME's official release in the community somehow.

So the answer is, it is 16.

The original release announcement is found here: https://groups.google.com/group/comp.cad.cadence/tree/browse_frm/month/1996-11/6b17c9ab20d225c2?rnum=81&_done=%2Fgroup%2Fcomp.cad.cadence%2Fbrowse_frm%2Fmonth%2F1996-11%3F

But perhaps a better question is what do the next 16 years hold? Cross platform UI? FME on Google Glass? Support for spatially enabled video? "Think to add" transformers in the canvas? Let's see what the best answer is...
Okay, the link I posted isn't so good -- here's a better one: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!msg/comp.cad.cadence/Wcd6BUqMsrs/TfMFZmwPnv4J
Wow, I've been around longer than FME? In my professional career I mean.

I'm surprised I started working in GIS before FME ever came out. It seems like FME has been around forever.,
At this critical juncture in the history of Safe Software, perhaps we could resolve to start referring to it as "The FME" again?
I wonder how Safe will celebrate "My Super Sweet 16" ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Super_Sweet_16

Congratulations! Safe Software not for the sweet 16 years in the industry but for the umpteen million successful transformations and translations in these 16 years across the user desktops and servers worldwide.
Long may you run.

Long may you run.

Although these changes

Have come

With your chrome heart shining

In the sun

Long may you run.
Congratulations Safe!  Keep up the good work for another 16 and I will use The FME to annouce my retirement in 4D on Google Universe!  🙂
