An old version of the Dissolver (Version 3) has a parameter called overlapping input which can be set to Overlap or No Overlap
Can anyone recall what the difference is?

View originalWow, that's an old version. Even FME 2014 has the Dissolver at version 11.
Found this nugget, hope it helps:

Thanks, i think that confirms for me that if Overlap was set then the current dissolver should do the same thing (but better!) and I'll hope I don't find one using the No Overlap function

Agree, I understand it the same way as you. If, for some reason, you find one using the No Overlap option, you could perhaps to do some magic with e.g. the SpatialRelator first.
