S3Connector not working with SSL verification even though a S3 resource exists.

I'm unable to use SSL with the S3Connector on a FME Server that has valid certs to our AWS. The certs are valid because we have successfully added a resource to the same S3 bucket. If I turn off SSL verification in the transformer, it works successfully. What is different with how the S3Connector works? Has anyone ran into this issue and resolved it?
