Hello FMEers,
Here's your weekly look at what's new in the world of FME.
Community Updates
A very nice and just-released update to the FME online community is a reputation leaderboard:
It covers the top 100 users, excludes Safers, and lets you sort by Rank, Level or Reputation. Thanks to Fahad at Safe for implementing this. I think there are more updates to come and I'm really looking forward to them.
On the subject of community, thank you to everyone who has taken our community survey so far. The information is going to be a great help in moving us forward.
If you haven't taken it yet, it takes about 10 minutes you can find it online here.
New Release
Today we release FME 2021.1.2 (build 21627). I don't see any changes in the ChangeLog (What's New) file, so I looked at our developer logs and I see fixes for:
- composite tests in the Tester (valid tests flagged as invalid)
- a crash that was exhibited by the LogWriter hub transformer
- replaced geocoder with a hub package
So if that's of interest, you can download it as always from our website.
FME Zum Kaffee
Did you know that it's possible for users to borrow an FME license from a license server, for those times when they are offline with no server access?
Con terra's latest FME Zum Kaffee video shows how it's done. Although the language is German, anyone should be able to follow along, regardless of their native language.
Magic Quadrant Recognition
I think this news was released about 10 seconds after I published last week's What's Up Wednesday, so - in case you missed hearing it from somewhere else - Safe Software is once again recognized in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools.
I can't emphasize how much of an achievement this is. So many congratulations to everyone at Safe, but also to all of our amazing users who take our products and produce such beautiful solutions.
Working at Safe
As a growing company, Safe has a whole bunch of positions open, from technical writers and technical support, to web developers and security specialists. But we also hire a number of students for co-op work terms, as this tweet mentions:
So if you know anyone looking for a co-op term in 2022 as a UX/UI designer or devops engineer, then this is where to look!
FME Swag
Having lived in the area I didn't think it was possible, but one of the FME World Tour solar aircraft is enjoying a sunny day in Dundee, Scotland:
These were given away around (I'm going to guess) 2017. Coincidentally I just disposed of mine because it had stopped working. Fellow swag enthusiast @Hans van der Maarel mentioned that he still has the programme of the 2009 Whistler user conference and a 2003 Safe mug at home.
So does anyone else have old FME swag still? Comment below with a photo if you have something (unless it's socks, I don't want to see photos of old socks!)
