Hello, FME'ers,
Welcome to What's Up Wednesday, your weekly look at FME news. Today is May 4th, so it's Star Wars Day - and don't forget you earn a special badge for posting on the community today - or Cinco de Cuatro if you're a fan of Arrested Development (who isn't?)
Either way, we're celebrating the release of FME 2022, which became available for download yesterday.
FME 2022
So FME 2022 is now officially released:
As always, you can find it on our website's downloads page, along with the full list of updates and changes in the ChangeLog file.
I'm sure there are lots of obvious changes, and you know about many of them already. But something I only noticed for the first time today is that the AttributeFilter now allows imports from Feature Caches:
It was something that helped me a great deal, and I hope you find it useful too.
Something else new that I'm quite fond of...
The new Start Page with workspace preview image and the ability to "star" a workspace (add it to a favourites list).
So go ahead and download the new version and let us know what you think of it.
World Tour 2022
The World Tour really kicks into overdrive during May, and my LinkedIn feed is absolutely full of news. Yesterday, for example, there was an event by Norkart in Oslo, Norway:
Today was 1Spatial in Sydney, Australia:
Tomorrow there are events in Brisbane (Australia), Leuven (Belgium), and Tallinn (Estonia). Next week there are even more, including London and Tokyo. Not to mention (but I am mentioning them) virtual events held by con terra, Red Geographics, Consortech, Sweco, Veremes, and more.
So, check out the full list of events and sign up now!
The 1Spatial photo above, by the way, was taken from a talk about using FME to create fantasy sports teams. This is the fourth project (at least) that I've heard of where FME is used for processing sports data - including NBA, NFL, NHL, and UK soccer - so that topic isn't as niche as you would expect.
Oh, I also meant to mention the event by GeneGIS in Italy:
Why that one in particular? Because I'll be making a very small cameo appearance in an Ask-Me-Anything session.
FME AR App for Android
I notice that the FME AR App for Android has recently been updated.
According to the notes, the new items are:
- UI changes
- Models can now be placed at geolocations
- Added viewpoint support
- Bug fixes
And you can find that on the Google Play Store.
Unique FME Use of the Week
It's not a use I'd considered, but check out the way that FME can be used to calculate your income taxes in New Zealand:
To me, it's another demonstration of how FME can be used to handle all sorts of useful different tasks. It doesn't need to be a big project. So a shout-out to Enric Shen in New Zealand for writing up this project as a blog post.
