Welcome to What's Up Wednesday.
2022 Sneak Peeks
The series of FME 2022 sneak peeks continued yesterday as Olivia from the geometry team demonstrated the new SolidDissolver transformer and updates to the Tiler:
Next up on the schedule is a demo of the SchemaScanner transformer. With me will be Mark Stoakes, one of our FME Application Experts.
2022 World Tour
So registrations for the World Tour are open with both Safe and our partners. I've been clicking through to the virtual partner events and signing up for any events where I think I can overcome any language barrier! I'll be sure to tune in and report everything here.
Hub Digest
The FME Hub monthly digest is a great way to keep up-to-date with both Safe and user-submitted content. This month there are four new transformers and a template.
To cover how you use these, for transformers, you just need to type the name into Quick Add in FME Workbench:
DatasetValidator looks to be potentially very useful and is another example of using FME itself as a framework for testing FME translations. The DayCreator transformer seems very niche. I'm not sure why you'd need that, but there must have been a use case to create it.
The template is a workflow that takes OpenStreetMap data and performs route analysis on the content. Because templates don't appear in Quick Add (the way that transformers do), you open them like this:
The Google Open Buildings transformer is one that I created as part of a question-of-the-week. I tried to make it more flexible with the option to read data either from a local file, a direct download by tile ID, or a direct download of data overlapping an input feature.
Is that option a helpful way of doing things? What do you think?
General News Items
New 2021 Release
Our schedule is to try and release updates on the first Tuesday in the month, so today, I can announce the release of 2021.2.3. At this point in the development cycle, there really isn't anything noteworthy to announce, though, just a few minor updates and fixes. But as always you can download it from our website.
Decision Support Tool
Here's a great post (in French) from Franck at Syndicat Intercommunal du Bassin d'Arcachon.
Franck notes how they use FME for many aspects of their work, including report generation, data analysis, email alert automation, and much more.
Merci bien pour écrire sur votre travail, Franck.
Congratulations
…to Gavin Park at IMGS for his certification renewals for another three years. Gavin is another on the certification Hall of Fame with all three certifications and the only one in Ireland.
…to Itay in the Netherlands for using the AttributeDereferencer. It is an odd transformer, but one that is a surprising favourite of some users.
