How to fix images/data (extract images (pdfs, tiffs, etc) from attachments in an ESRI geodatabase)

I am trying to extract images (pdfs, tiffs, etc) from attachments in an ESRI geodatabase. I have been able to get what looks like the proper file but it won't open. Any ideas or perhaps know what to fix this?
