Question

Anyone know if there is a difference with NonEarth_Meter and XY-M when it comes to coordinate systems?

Sometimes when reading various files I get different behaviour for the coordinate system the FME chooses.

Sometimes I see 'NonEarth_Meter' while other times is something like XY-M. Seems to be somewhat random, however, it could be specific to the input format

Does anyone know if there is a difference of why both these definitions exist?

Hi @virtualcitymatt,

The FME coordinate system library contains a number of duplicate coordinate systems under different names. These are a result of updating CSMAP, but also having to support older workspaces the use the old names.

I think the reason you are getting different names returned by different writers is due to the developer setting a fallback coordinate system to the non-earth coordinate system name in use at the time.

Would you mind sending me the details on which readers are providing NonEarth_Meter and which are providing XY-M? I will create an enhancement request to have these harmonized.
