Related to writing 3D PDF:

FME2014 – 32 bits: Option to «reorient 2D features for visibility»?

FME2015 -64 BITS : No option to «reorient 2D features for visibility»?

From the documentation I see:

To maintain backwards compatibility:

- Workspaces generated with 64-bit FME 2015+ use the PRC file format.

- Workspaces generated before FME 2015, running 32-bit FME 2015 or later, will use the U3D file format.

Is it not possible to use «reorient 2D features for visibility»? anymore?

May be open a idea to the support for FME Desktop 2016. :)

The experts at Safe say:

My understanding is that this setting is no longer necessary. This option was to address single sided rendering of 2D objects in the U3D format in PDF to avoid them being oriented such that back face was presented to the user and the geometry appeared invisible.

Currently when we render PRC geometries we render both sides so this option is no longer meaningful.

I can only write one appearance per face but it's applied to both sides of the face. For instance, an FME face with one red side and one blue side will be written either as both sides blue or both sides red. But I don't think you can get into a situation where you can't see the geometry entirely.

Bottom line -- this option doesn't have any meaning or use in the new PRC PDF universe. It was only to work around U3D shortcomings.
