FME 2018.0 getting error trying to access or create database connections

Badge +5

Anyone else having this issue?

I open FME 2018.0 18295 32-bit and my stored database connections can't be loaded. When I open the FME Options/Database Connections, I get: "Error Retrieving Connections". The Translation log window is also missing. When I reopen it, I get the below error.

If I restart my computer, I can open FME and the database connections are back. I can't break it just by opening/closing/running a workbench, but at some point I go to open a workbench and I get the error again. Haven't dialed in the repro steps, but I can't go a day without it happening.

2017 is working great on the same machine. Have the problem on a different machine as well.

Hi @jakethepainter,

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered this problem!

Are you opening a workspace via the context menu (right-click a workspace > open with FME Workbench)?

If so, could you launch FME Workbench first, and then open the workspace? Does the error message still occur?

From what you have described, this sounds similar to a known issue on 32-bit that has been fixed in FME 2018.1 beta. Could you try the latest beta version found here or upgrade to FME 64-bit found here.

If you are still encountering a similar error after launching FME Workbench first or trying FME 2018.1 beta, please report a problem here.

Yes, that does seem to work to open 2018.0 first and then open the workbench. Good to know.

I'm having trouble downloading the beta; it may not be whitelisted for me.

Just wanted to report that the beta did indeed fix the issue for me.
