Hello Guys

Any one has work on automating the House numbering for a city , we assume there is no adress system implemented yet and could use the same system as North america ( one side of the street , odd numbers and the other side even numbers.)

Any ideas

Thanks

There are a lot of things to consider.

Is there an overall consistent grid system? ie, 4200 Avenue A and 4200 Avenue Z will both be between Street L and Street M, even if that's the first block of Avenue Z.

Is there an axis, with the numbering increasing away from the axis?

Does the numbering continue if the street changes name?

Does the numbering continue if the street changes administrative boundaries?

How are circles or crescents dealt with? (Where I live North and East sides of the street are odd numbers, South and West are even numbers, crescents are generally numbered with the outer edge of the arc being odd numbers, regardless of the cardinal direction.)

What do you do with streets running at 45 degrees to the grid alignment (assuming there is one)?

Hi @boubcher

please take a look at LeftRightSpatialCalculator - it can help you separate properties that are left/right relative to the street.

To create the numbers you can probably use Counter. After 'counting' odd and even properties separately, please
  • multiply the even numbers by 2 (to make all of them even and not repeating)
  • and calculate @Value(_count)*2-1 for odd numbers.

One more required step is ordering properties before counting them. Most likely, you will be able to do that based on e.g. property centroid coordinates. You can find whether the street goes S to N or N to S and E to W or W to E and order the related properties in a similar way. If the streets have quite complicated geometries this task might be not trivial though.

@jdh there is no address system implemented yet and we are trying to help the citizen build one that will solve the address issue. I know its big task but we will do for one area to show the concept and get local gov involved. if you do have any resources to help to go with the best concept it help a lot.

@Lena thanks for the info, we have only to choose the methodolgy then apply it using FME

Many states or counties have addressing guidelines available online.
