Hi

I have just received LiDAR data in .las format. I am using MapInfo but cannot directly open them in this program. I also have access to Engage 3D (but not Pro)

Can someone please help me with advice as to how I go about converting them in FME workbench into a usable format for MapInfo.

Essentially I would like to get contours, point data (x, y, z) as well as being able to create DEMs. Must warn you I don't use FME often - so please dumb down any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Keiryn,

for general examples with point clound data, you can check this link:

There is one example, how you can create a DEM. So in the first step it would be good to filter out your relevant data (-> points for DEM) and then write it to Mapinfo. I jsut checked the FME readers and writers gallery and in the MapInfo Spatial Ware (Database) z-values are supported. So that could be an approach...

Best regards,

Stefan
